Authentic Stovetop Chai Tea (Makes 2 Cups)

This is my favourite way to make chai. Simmering the spices allows their flavours to really come alive fully and will fill your kitchen endorphin releasing spicy aromas!  The savouring begins before you've even had your first sip & it's as easy as boiling water!

  1. Place 4tsp of Real Chai Tea in a small saucepan or milk warmer 
  2. Add 1.5 cups of water, bring to the boil & simmer for 5 minutes
  3. Add one cup of milk or soy, heat through for 2 minutes  (skip this step if you prefer black chai)
  4. Strain into your favourite cup. Add 1teaspoon of honey.
  5. Sit back, smile and enjoy..

Plunger/Teapot Chai Tea (Makes 2 Cups)

I call this office Chai. Not everyone has access to a stovetop, especially at work but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy Real Chai. Everyday at 3pm I used to make Chai for everyone in our office. Yes! It was a happy office!

Place 4tsp teaspoons of Real Chai in your plunger or teapot. Add 1 cup of boiling water.

Allow to steep for a few 5 minutes for optimal flavours.
In the meantime heat 1 cup of milk or soy (skip this step if you prefer black chai)
Add to your plunger or teapot
Add 1 tsp of honey per cup
Sit back, smile and enjoy.

Iced Chai Tea (Makes 2 Cups) 

Mmmmm so good in summer or just for something different.

Place 4tsp of Real Chai Tea in a small saucepan or milk warmer
Add 1.5 cups of water, bring to the boil & simmer for 5 minutes
Add one cup of milk or soy, heat through for 2 minutes (skip this step if you prefer black chai)
Sweeten while hot with 2 tsp of honey.
Strain into a jug. Allow to cool on the bench first, then chill in the fridge.
Serve over ice cream for an extra delicious treat!

Tips & Tricks for making the best possible cup

The trick to knowing how to make chai tea truly exceptional is making it your own. Everyone has a different preference for creaminess, sweetness and strength.

Like it hot?
We’ve already made sure RealChai is made with extra spices for you. As it comes into winter you may like to step it up a notch by adding a few slices of fresh ginger to the pot. This will give you a some extra ‘warming zing’. Ginger is great for the digestion and immune system too. You can also experiment with a dash of chili or pepper – for those that like it hot!

Like it creamy?
RealChai is the definition of winter comfort, especially when you use a rich creamy soy milk. We recommend Bonsoy as the best tastiest soy around. RealChai is also delicious with full cream dairy milk. As it’s getting colder outside, try using a 50/50 ratio of water and milk, for extra creamy comfort.

Like it stronger?
Simply brew RealChai for longer (before adding the milk). Unlike other chais, RealChai wont go bitter. In fact it gets better the longer you brew it. My morning routine consists of simmering the water and RealChai, while i shower. By the time I’m done, it’s ready to add the milk and honey and indulge. It couldn’t be easier (or more delicious!).

Like it simple?
RealChai is traditionally made with milk and honey but there are plenty of people who love to drink it black. The other benefit of RealChai is you get to control the sweetness. Don’t like sugar or honey, no problems. You can enjoy the pure spicy flavour without the sweetener. Or if you are a sweet tooth like me, load up you teaspoon with delicious serving of local honey. Lighter honeys are better as they don’t overpower the blend.
